|2010 Porsche Cayman Review|
The Porsche Cayman combines sublime handling abilities, brakes that beg to be pushed hot into a corner and a choice of two engines that will enthusiastically sing as they slingshot you down the straightaway. Some of our editors who have driven the Cayman extensively report that its well-balanced chassis could actually handle considerably more power, and it's suspected that Porsche limited the Cayman's capabilities as not to overlap with its seminal 911.

The midengine Porsche Cayman is offered in two models, the base Cayman and the Cayman S. The base Cayman is powered by a 2.9-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that produces 265 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Step up to the Cayman S and the engine expands to 3.4 liters and power grows to 320 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Standard on both models is a six-speed manual, with Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual (named PDK) optional. This transmission is capable of operating in full automatic mode or with gearchanges ordered up by the driver via wheel-mounted buttons. Regardless of which mode you use, shifts are incredibly quick and smooth. PDK also produces better acceleration and fuel economy.

When it comes to the suspension, the Porsche Cayman takes advantage of its stiffer-than-a-convertible structure by offering a level of handling and nimbleness that is a step above the capabilities of the Boxster. Safety aids include antilock brakes, traction control and stability control, all tuned to intervene only when absolutely necessary so as not to detract from the sporting nature of the Cayman. Optional is Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) which, via a variety of sensors, electronically and automatically adjusts the suspension to optimize either comfort or handling, depending on the setting and the driver's level of aggression. Larger wheels and tires round out the suspension options and help to improve braking. Braking performance is further enhanced on the Cayman S by optional carbon-ceramic brakes.

The interior accommodations take their cue from the Boxster and offer the typical Porsche combination of sport and luxury, with leather and metallic accents decorating the cabin. The leather-appointed seats possess the ability to both hold the driver in place during spirited maneuvers and to coddle driver and passenger during more serene outings. High-end audio and navigation are available on both Cayman models, though the base stereo offerings are disappointing for a car in this price range. 2010 BMW 5-Series Review
The 2010 BMW 5 Series is looking at the tail end of its career. With a completely redesigned model just a year away, the latest 5 is facing its final curtain, but does so while still remaining a top choice for a premium midsize luxury sedan. Indeed, while newer competitors have surpassed this segment's elder statesman in certain areas, the 5 remains one of the finest vehicles in the world to travel each and every highway. Regrets? The 5 has a few, but the most worthy to mention is iDrive, which has been harped on endlessly since its introduction in the early 2000s. For 2010, all 5 Series thankfully get the latest iDrive knob and accompanying menu buttons, but without navigation, the same old convoluted menu structure remains. We suggest opting for the navigation system, which includes the higher- resolution screen and improved iDrive menus found in the all-new 7 Series. Other than those updates, the 2010 5 Series continues to consist of the 528i, 535i and 550i sedans and 535i xDrive wagon. Of all these, the 535i would certainly be our pick. Its twin-turbocharged inline -6 endows it with an ideal blend of seamless power and respectable fuel efficiency. This torque-rich engine pulls hard from low in its rev range and effortlessly gets this BMW up to speed. In fact, the 535i is only a few tenths slower to 60 mph than the V8-powered 550i, while returning only 1 mpg less combined than the 528i. The strong engines, along with an ideal ride/handling balance, spacious interior and impressive build quality are still the 5 Series' core strengths. Yet it is certainly pricey, and its advanced age has put it behind the electronic times in a few areas. Also, its standard steering may be too stiff for some drivers. As such, the fully redesigned Mercedes E-Class, the sleek- looking Jaguar XF and even the very impressive Hyundai Genesis are worth close looks. But the 5 Series has faced them all and stood tall, continuing to be a favorite among our editors and shoppers alike. So although the end is near, the 2010 BMW 5 Series still does things its way.

Walkaround
The 2010 BMW 5 Series is available in sedan and wagon body styles. Three engines are available on the sedan that correspond to the three trim levels (528i, 535i and 550i), with xDrive all-wheel drive available on the 528i and 535i sedans. The wagon comes in 535i xDrive trim only. The 528i comes standard with 17-inch wheels, a sunroof, automatic headlights and wipers, power front seats with driver memory and power headrests, a power tilt- telescoping steering column, leatherette vinyl upholstery, automatic climate control, the iDrive electronics interface and a 10-speaker stereo with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The 535i adds adaptive xenon headlights and lumbar support, while the 535i xDrive wagon adds a panoramic sunroof, fold-down rear seats and a power tailgate. The 550i adds parking assist, leather upholstery and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Overview
The 2010 BMW 5 Series is just at home on a winding back road as it is on a leisurely cross-country road trip. Opting for either of the sport packages allows the 5 to tackle tight corners as skillfully as some dedicated sports cars. When driven aggressively, the steering has perfect weighting and a near-telepathic feel, but around town and in parking lots, it feels overly heavy. For this reason, we think casual drivers mostly interested in the 5 Series' looks, luxury and curb appeal should opt for the active steering system. Likewise, those drivers might find the ride quality to be a little stiff at times when equipped with the Sport package, but overall this BMW is a fine all-purpose luxury sport sedan.

2010 BMW 6-Series Review
The 2010 BMW 6 Series is a luxury coupe, not a cutting-edge sports machine, so you shouldn't expect it to handle like a Porsche 911 or even its 335i and M3 siblings, both of which are available as retractable-hardtop convertibles. Nonetheless, as personal luxury vehicles go, the 6 Series offers a beguiling combination of confident performance, a cosseting cabin, unique style and newly competitive electronics. Though you'll certainly want to check out Mercedes-Benz's new E-Class Coupe as well as the Jaguar XK-Series, this BMW continues to be a very appealing luxury sport coupe and convertible.

Walkaround
The 2010 BMW 650i is available in coupe and convertible body styles. Standard equipment on the coupe includes 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, foglights, auto wipers, parking sensors, power-folding mirrors, a panoramic tilt-only sunroof, eight-way power front seats with driver memory, leather upholstery, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, the iDrive electronics interface, Bluetooth, an eight-speaker CD/MP3 stereo with an auxiliary audio jack, and a hard-drive-based navigation system with voice recognition, 13 gigabytes of multimedia storage and real-time traffic. Summary
The 2010 BMW 650i isn't as sporting as some other BMW models, but its well-controlled body motions and firm-yet-supple ride are certainly up to BMW standards. The Active Roll Stabilization system keeps the big coupe composed around corners, and in general the 6 Series feels more nimble than the car's size and 2-ton curb weight would suggest. The 4.8-liter V8 is a gem for those who don't mind winding their engine out to redline, but fans of low-end torque will find it lacking relative to, say, the 5.5-liter V8 in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.rear seat entertainment and navigation.

2010 BMW M6 Review
The rear-wheel-drive 2010 BMW M6 is powered by a 5.0-liter V10 that pumps out a thrilling 500 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed single-clutch automated manual gearbox called SMG is standard, and it can be operated via wheel-mounted shift paddles, manual shift-lever manipulation or a full-automatic mode. A six-speed manual transmission is available at no additional cost. The M6 makes quick work of acceleration tests, as you might expect. We've timed an SMG-equipped coupe at just 4.6 seconds to 60 mph en route to a 12.8-second quarter-mile. Expect the heavier convertible M6 to require a few extra tenths. EPA fuel economy estimates for all M6 models are an impressively bad 11 mpg city/17 mpg highway and 13 mpg in mixed driving.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2010 BMW M6 is offered as either a coupe or convertible. Based on the 6 Series, the M6 comes standard with 19-inch double-spoke wheels, a carbon-fiber roof (coupe only) a body kit (including a more aggressive front airdam, side-sill extensions and a rear diffuser), adaptive xenon headlights, adjustable suspension dampers, leather-upholstered 12-way power front sport seats with driver memory settings, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, Bluetooth, the revised iDrive interface with a hard-drive-based navigation system featuring real-time traffic updates, and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system. The convertible comes with a power soft top. Options include a head-up display, keyless entry/ignition, satellite radio, HD Radio, iPod/USB integration and leather trim for the dash and console. Walnut wood trim is standard in the M6, but olive ash wood and carbon-fiber trim are also available. The 2010 BMW M6's dashboard layout is clean and attractive, but it's basically lifted out of the 5 Series sedan, so it's not particularly sporty relative to, say, the dash Porsche puts into the 911. Materials quality, however, is absolutely first-rate. The newly revised iDrive system with hard-drive-based navigation is finally a competitive infotainment interface, thanks to additional physical buttons around the control knob and a new menu structure that just makes a lot more sense. As ever, it also provides access to in-depth functions like the maximum-performance "P500 Sport" mode that unleashes all 500 hp (400 hp being the default output) with instantaneous throttle response. The M6's front sport seats are among the best in the world, offering both excellent lateral support and drive-all-day comfort. The tight rear seats are strictly for short trips, though. Trunk capacity for the coupe is 13 cubic feet, while the convertible manages a decent 12.4 cubes (10.6 with the top down).

Summary
For 2010, one additionally previous demerit has been erased thanks to an updated iDrive system. Like other 2010 BMW models, the M6's iDrive gets a new interface with more sensible-to-use menus, extra buttons for accessing oft-used features and a hard-drive-based navigation system. To distance itself from the Discovery name, which conjured thoughts of unreliability among some, Land Rover changed the name of U.S.-bound Discos to LR3 when the latest model debuted for 2005. For 2010, the model has again acquired a new nameits now the LR4on account of a host of changes and 1300 new parts. Like the other V-8powered Land Rovers, the LR4 retires the 4.4-liter in favor of Jaguars new 5.0-liter direct-injection V-8 that here boosts output from 300 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque to a far more serious 375 hp and 375 lb-ft. Acceleration is said to have improved substantially, with a claimed 060 time of 7.5 seconds (our long-term LR3 did the 060 run in as quickly as 8.6). Maximum towing capacity stays the same, at over 7700 lb.

Walkaround
On the outside, the functional look and the sheetmetal of the LR3 remain. The exterior styling changes are limited to new headlights, grillwork, bumpers, and taillights. LEDs are now found front and rear. Inside, the upright center console and the two-tier glove box elements are similar, but the dashboard is new and shares some of its switchgear with the Range Rover Sport. The only carry-over items on the dash are the round vents. A Jaguar-sourced touch screen infotainment and navigation system greatly simplifies the interior and cuts down on the number of buttons, although Jags system isnt exactly fast-acting and can be a bit frustrating to use. The cabin retains its airy and upright feel, but improved materials and the updated electronics lend the LR4 a more modern and expensive appearance. Seven-passenger seating remains optional, and automatic high-beam headlamps and an Infiniti-like five-camera surround view system are newly available. Under the skin, the LR4 has received a number of suspension changes. They include a wider track front and rear, suspension knuckles that lower the roll center, larger anti-roll bars, and revised bushings and shocks. The goal was to improve handling and reduce body roll while improving the ride. Other alterations include the addition of a roll sensor to the stability-control systemwhich also gains a trailer-towing algorithmand new variable-ratio steering that quickens as the wheel is turned off-center. Larger brakes adapted from the Range Rover Sport with four-piston front calipers aim to keep the additional power from overwhelming the LR4.

The 2010 Tundra has one of the most powerful V8 engines in the class with standard amenities taht include an AM/FM CD player with auxiliary audio jack and four speakers, driver and passenger dual zone climate controls with sync mode, driver-side and passenger-side four-way adjustable seats, and a tilt steering wheel with column shifter. Front legroom isn't even a concern, because with 42.5 inches available, the Tundra has another best-in-class on its hands. A tilt-telescoping steering wheel also enhances spaciousness. The Toyota Tundra is a full-size, half-ton pickup that raises the competitive bar in its class. It's also built to Toyota's high standards of quality, durability and reliability.

Model Overview
Ample passenger space is another plus with the 2010 Tundra, which comes with a choice of three cabs - the Regular Cab, the Double Cab, and the CrewMax cab. Previous models of the Tundra came with a choice of a 4.0-liter V6 or a 4.7-liter V8. These engines are still available, but most favor the new 5.7-liter iForce V8. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the two-wheel drive Tundra with the 4.0-liter engine at 15 miles per gallon in the city and 19 on the highway, while the 4.7-liter model scores 14 mpg in the city and 17 on the highway and the 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 14 in the city and 18 on the highway. The Tundra's three available cabs each offer a different seating configuration. The Regular Cab seats two up front, with no rear seats. The Double Cab and the CrewMax add seating for an additional three passengers in the back, with the CrewMax offering substantially more legroom and sliding seats. The seating earns good reviews.

2010 Porsche Panamera Review
The 2010 Panamera is a four-door, four-seat, fastback sports car with a hatchback at the rear. Porsche officials say it is alone, unique in the world of Gran Turismo cars that it creates the Panamera class. Of course, there are competitors, whether or not Porsche considers them in the same class. One is the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide, others might include the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Maserati Quattroporte. Some buyers might also cross-shop the BMW M5, Mercedes CLS63 AMG and Jaguar XFR to name three more. What we'll all agree on is that the Panamera is a grand tourer. It will be offered initially with V-8 engines derived from the Cayenne SUV, though six-cylinder cars are coming and they might even reach our shores with a slick-shifting manual transmission. As big four-doors go, the Panamera is a performance car without question. The naturally aspirated S base model (400 horsepower) comes in two- or four-wheel drive and starts at $115,100. The super-car-baiting Panamera Turbo (500 hp) will also hit showrooms in October, stickered at $155,000. It comes standard with all-wheel drive. Porsche is also planning on a Panamera hybrid, a diesel variant and, very likely, a faster GTS/Turbo S, too. We'll see.

Interior Features and Powertrains
The Panamera easily seats four in comfort and even big guys can get comfortable in back. Rumour has it that Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche's CEO, had to be able to sit in the back of the Panamera comfortably before the car's design would get the green light. The rear seats are comfortable and very supportive, though seats front and back do not seem as wide as what's in traditional big luxury cars such as the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, two other possible rivals, though not directly. What separates the Panamera from others is the low-slung design, which translates into a low-set cabin. It's different and sexy and quite similar to a Porsche 911. A high transmission tunnel running the length of the passenger space creates individual seating spaces, but robs the cabin of room, too. A high-set gear lever and clear switchgear and dials are just exactly what a driving enthusiast wants. The rear seats split and fold to enhance cargo space, so there is a practical piece here, too. More than anything, though, the Panamera drives like a Porsche, like a larger 911 mated to a Cayenne. But there is no getting around the fact this car weighs two tonnes. And let's not forget the Panamera is a front-engine car, not a rear-engine sports car like the 911. The twin turbo, with its 4.8-litre V-8, is a monster. My tester, with the Sports Chrono package ($3,110) that includes a launch-control function on the standard seven-sped PDK twin-clutch transmission, played happily with the roads and autobahns of Bavaria. The car will hit 100 km/h in about four seconds and I had it up to 260 km/h and felt safe all the way.

Summary
This is an indecently fast car, one that makes a thrilling sound when the engine and turbos spool up to do their business. Air-springs are standard on the Turbo and they have three modes of stiffness: compliant, Sport and Sport Plus. Sport firms things up a bit, while Sport Plus is a gearhead's dream. You want to feel planted in the corners? This is for you. Sport Plus engages active anti-roll bars to eliminate roll. The car steers precisely, though there is more feel in a 911. The normally aspirated model is fitted with steel springs and some of the engineers say they prefer them, that they are more authentic and deliver more feel. Another feature for enthusiasts is the electronically controlled rear differential. It brakes a lightly loaded inside rear tire to help straighten you out when exiting a corner exit. If things get really hairy, there is a full range of air bags and other safety features. Standard. While the exterior design is controversial, there is no denying the Panamera's prowess on the road. It's a real gem for enthusiasts who love to drive and especially for those who live and breathe Porsche.

The 2010 Range Rover is a considerable step forward for what is already regarded as one of the worlds most complete luxury vehicles. New engines provide formidable power, efficiency and customary Range Rover refinement, with new technologies delivering world firsts. Like its legendary predecessors, the 2010 Range Rover is setting the pace once more, says Phil Popham, Land Rover managing director.

Improved Performance
Pride of place on the 2010 Range Rover goes to the brand new 510PS 5.0-litre supercharged LR-V8 petrol engine. The engine was developed in-house by the Jaguar Land Rover powertrain team, with the requirements of the Range Rover in mind from day one. The LR-V8 engine has been developed to deliver more power and refinement, but not at the expense of fuel consumption and emissions. The LR-V8 improves fuel consumption by 7.3 percent to 19mpg on the EU cycle and CO2 emissions by 7.4 percent to 348g/km, despite substantial increases in both power to 510PS (+29 percent) and torque to 625Nm (+12 percent), compared with its 4.2-litre Supercharged predecessor. The popular diesel derivative continues to be powered by the acclaimed 272PS 3.6-litre TDV8 and also benefits from upgrades to the design and under-the-skin modifications.

Updated Infotainment Systems
There are also a number of other key infotainment upgrades including a new hard-drive navigation system providing faster route calculation, larger area map coverage and improved reliability and a new Portable Audio Interface allowing connectivity to an array of personal audio storage devices such as USB sticks and MP3 players, enabling the various devices functions to be accessed and controlled via the facia- mounted touch-screen system. One of the connectivity ports is a dedicated Apple iPodTM point made exclusively by Land Rover. In summary, the Range Rover is still the consummate luxury 44. Its combination of unrivalled all -terrain performance with the ultimate in comfort and refinement remains a clear industry benchmark, concludes Phil Popham.

When it debuted four years ago, the Lexus RX 400h answered what many thought was an obvious question: Why doesn't someone make a midsize hybrid SUV? Better yet, how about a luxury-branded midsize hybrid SUV? That first RX hybrid offered the typical Lexus attributes of luxury, a smooth and quiet ride and top-notch build quality. It also provided strong performance along with fuel mileage ratings in the mid-20s. The 2010 Lexus RX 450h represents the next generation of this successful offering. Among the changes made for 2010 are more power along with slightly better fuel efficiency. The RX 450h produces a maximum output of 295 horsepower, 27 more ponies than before, while the fuel numbers go up a couple of mpg. The hybrid version also shares the same changes made to all 2010 RX models, including an increase in width (though other dimensions remain essentially unchanged), a beefier structure to promote greater crashworthiness, bigger wheels and brakes, more airbags (now at 10 total), a keyless ignition system and a new computer mouselike multifunction controller for the optional navigation system. Unfortunately, another change for the 450h is a weight gain of more than 400 pounds. However, it seems to have little effect on the RX 450h's dynamics, as performance is still strong and handling feels sharper than before, thanks to revised steering and suspension systems. As before, the hybrid can function in gas-engine-only, electric-only or combination modes depending on conditions. During light acceleration or when coasting, the 450h saves fuel by running solely on battery power. When full power is called for, the 450h offers acceleration similar to that of some V8-powered rivals while achieving the best fuel economy in the midsize luxury SUV class. Of course, none of this comes cheap. A typically equipped 2010 Lexus RX 450h will cost about $4,000 more than a similar RX 350. Given that, it would take many miles and years of driving to recoup the hybrid's additional cost via reduced fuel consumption. And from a pure "save the planet" standpoint, buying a 50-mpg Prius makes much more sense than buying a 28-mpg crossover. But it's hard not to like the RX 450h -- quick, luxurious and relatively fuel-efficient, it seemingly offers the best of all worlds, virtually guaranteeing its appeal to the luxury SUV buyer.

Summary
The 2010 Lexus RX 450h drives a lot like its gas-powered RX 350 sibling, delivering both a smooth ride and reasonably tight handling despite its extra weight (which is only noticeable when changing direction at higher speeds). That smooth ride comes thanks to soft suspension tuning, which makes the RX feel a little too spongy for those who appreciate a more spirited driving experience. However, the Sport package does firm things up a bit. The RX 450h is capable of approaching 30 mph in electric mode alone, which is of great fuel-saving benefit in stop-and-go traffic. This year brings a new "EV" mode that allows solely electric propulsion for lower speeds over short distances. Under maximum acceleration, though, an un-Lexus-like amount of engine noise is generated as the gas engine revs all the way up to redline.

2010 Audi Q7 Review
Although media focus has shifted to its smaller Q5 crossover, Audi hasn't forgotten about the larger Q7. The 2010 model, debuting at this week's 2009 Shanghai motor show, sports a few small repairs, helping it fit in with Audi's heavily-revised portfolio.

Walkaround
If you're a fan of the Q7's physical form, you'll be elated to know the crossover's shape doesn't change for 2010. Exterior changes are limited, with the largest revision being revised front and rear bumper skins. Others, notably the new grille insert and LED daytime running lamps, help bring the Q7 in line with the company's current design ethic. Perhaps the most important feature inside is Audi's new third-generation Multimedia Interface, or MMI. The infotainment system uses Audi's latest form of 3D navigation, and a new joystick control for navigating through menus, maps, and the like. Users can also control the MMI through a revised vocal command system, which responds to personal statements like "I'm hungry" or "I need gas" by searching for restaurants or gas stations nearby. It can also be paired to a 14-speaker, 505-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system, similar to those offered in other Audis.

Summary
Unchanged, however, are the Q7's powertrains. A direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6, rated at 280 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, is still the base offering, while the 350-hp direct-injection 4.2-liter V-8 is the grand-daddy of the lineup. Slotting between those two is the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 introduced in 2009. Rated at 225 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, it's marginally slower than a Q7 with the 3.6, but its 17/25 mpg city/highway rating is impressive, as is its 600 mile range.

The Cayenne comes in one size with just two rows of seats, for a maximum head count of five passengers. Though its styling attempts to translate the design vocabulary that works so well on Porsche's small, lightweight sports cars, there's no hiding the truck's formidable mass.

Walkaround
The Porsche Cayenne is available in four styles, each with its own engine. The base Cayenne is the most economical but also the weakest, with a 3.6-liter V6 producing 290 hp. Its standard equipment list offers little more than the luxury SUV staples, but interestingly, it's the only Cayenne available with a manual transmission. All others feature a standard six-speed automatic with steering-wheel-mounted manual shift controls known as Tiptronic. Brisker acceleration is available in the Cayenne S, which has a 385-hp V8 as well as more standard features. Next up is the sport-tuned Cayenne GTS, featuring a 405-hp version of the S model's V8 along with a six-speed manual transmission, 21-inch wheels, an active air suspension and a lower ride height. From there you can step up to the quick and lavishly equipped Cayenne Turbo, which provides a 500-hp turbocharged V8, albeit at twice the price of the base Cayenne. Even higher is the Cayenne Turbo S, which squeezes 550 hp from the same engine. A sophisticated, proactive all-wheel-drive system is standard on all Porsche Cayennes and provides both high- and low-range gearing. Off-pavement capability is greatly enhanced by the optional off-road package, which adds a locking rear differential, hydraulically disconnecting stabilizer bars and skid plates. Inside, the driver sits high above traffic in comfortable bucket seats and faces a three-spoke steering wheel and a center-mounted tachometer that pays homage to Porsche's sports cars. The ignition is even mounted on the left side of the dash. Materials quality is superb throughout the cabin; even the pricey Turbo model looks and feels appropriately elegant.

Summary
In general, the Cayenne's driving characteristics are enjoyable while issuing mild criticisms for fussy ergonomics, weak acceleration with the V6, tight rear-seat legroom and limited cargo space. Additionally, in spite of its impressive list of off-road hardware, the Cayenne is not as capable a rock-crawler as many of its competitors. Most of the blame goes to its street-biased, low-profile tires.
